February 2012

Just like home - with all new friends.

This season’s Emory Alumni Association Dinner with 12 Strangers program was a resounding success, with 230 students enjoying 22 dinners around Atlanta.  Faculty and special alumni guests were invited to attend and get to know students in a casual setting.

Here’s what Emory students are saying about Dinner with 12 Strangers:
“This was the first “dinner with 12 strangers” that I have participated in, and I thoroughly enjoyed it – I have already told my classmates who did not get the chance to attend that they must when the next round of dinners occurs.” — Filomene,  16G
“It was special treat to learn a little more about the diverse backgrounds of our students here at Emory.”  –John, 12 MBA

Smiles were as abundant as the great food and company.

“Better than I have eaten anywhere else and I envy the fact that your family has your cooking on a regular basis. With all of the guests, I am sure it was quite an undertaking to prepare all of that food. . . You have such a lovely home and I really enjoyed talking to you and the rest of your family along with the rest of the guests.” — Chris, 15G

To participate as an alumni host for a future Dinner with 12 Strangers, or to attend an upcoming event, please visit our information page.
Here is a blog post written by Emory student Michael Goldberg about his expierence with the dinner. Goldberg has started Emory students’ unofficial blog the Skeleton Standard.

Love that home cooking!

Beautiful music

Every February, Emory University hosts its annual Founders Dinner in recognition of the great Emory tradition of Charter Day. On December 10, 1836 the State of Georgia gave permission for Emory College to establish its charter.

The trustees met for the first time in February of the following year and marked the first official act of what now is named Emory University.

Now, the Founders Dinner stands to remember Emory’s history and continue the traditions of its past. The event includes a candlelit ceremony, a keynote address, dinner, live a cappella performances and more.

Flourishing starts with a healthy outlook

February 21, 2012

If you could measurably improve your life with a change of outlook, would you do it? Yellowstone is calling your name

February 20, 2012

Escape the email, hang up the phone, stow away the laptop or tablet.  Isn’t it time to really connect with your world? Just imagine experiencing a different kind of wake-up call every morning and trade the alarm clock for birdsong.  Imagine the rush – not of commuter cars - but of herds of elk and deer crossing the roads and valleys.  [...]

Senior burnout sets in

February 15, 2012

Even with my classes being low pressure and just for fun, I still have a severe case of senioritis.  I’m burnt out.  Finding the motivation to do homework is like finding the motivation to hit the gym when it’s cold outside and your bed feels so, so warm.  Funny part about it, sometimes I’d rather [...]
